Rowling reviewed her Harry Potter series, I'd read it. (Not that I place myself remotely near her skill level. I still have quite a ways to go.)

Writing "Jagumaterra" took me six, almost seven, years to complete. It started out as a suggestion from my dad that I stop writing fan fiction and open up my own, original creation. Of course, he suggested the Jagumas to be horse people, but they weren't ferocious enough for me. ;)

It was a lot of fun, I found, to create a whole other world with its own customs, ways of speaking, legends, history, and religion. Of course, in the mind of a fourteen year old girl, the story and characters had much maturing to do. For example, originally, Ryedor was known as Abeni Fezah Sesen and Ishikarr was named Chipo Rashida Shakarri. It wasn't until I took the meaning of the first name and jumbled it all together that I found names more suited to otherworldly creatures.

I gave this book four stars because, while I am very satisfied with how it turned out, I know I can do better. I promise my readers a trilogy that will make you think and keep you guessing. In my own experience, the first book is usually the simplest. ;) I just hope you fall in love with the characters as much as I did and that you enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Best Regards,

Regan Brianne Guerra

View all my reviews

Debutante Ball Winners Announced!!

Thank you all for dancing with me! It's been fun getting to know you. Be sure to stay tuned as more sweepstakes and giveaways are announced! I have to say, it was a good thing the winners were randomly picked, otherwise I'd have had a terrible time, what with heartNsole's determination to shout out almost every day, Pinky's shared passion for independent publishing (Right there with you, sister!), and Honey Cuddles flooring me with her use of the Ancient Tongue. You all are such a stupendous support! Thanks for boosting a first-timer's confidence!
Okay... without further ado, the moment you've all been waiting for!

And the randomly generated winners are:

Gena Robertson (US)

and

GypsyLCM (International)

Congratulations!! Packer during a fireside on February 1, 1976. There, I found an awesome writing quote that I wish to share with all (especially my author friends out there).
"We shall yet have Miltons and Shakespeares of our own. God’s ammunition is not exhausted. His highest spirits are held in reserve for the latter times. In God’s name and by His help we will build up a literature whose tops will touch the heaven, though its foundation may now be low on the earth." -Orson F. Whitney
Amazing, isn't it? Everyone knows that when a girl's name changes, she got married, but I am still SO HAPPY!! WOOT!
So I'll start answering the basics. :)
His name is Mario.
He's from OR.
We got married on the 3rd of Dec. 2010 in the Mesa, AZ Temple.
We did not get a toaster. (For some strange reason, a LOT of people have been asking us that.)
We met under quite miraculous circumstances. We'd seen each other around at the singles' ward, but it was really weird when we bumped into each other at the SLC airport, both headed home from weddings. (Little did I know that he had just caught the garter... maybe I should have really dove for that bouquet, then it would be REALLY interesting....) I was kinda waiting for a missionary at the time, so I was thinking something along the lines of "Nice guy, but no." We got to talking and found out that our tickets were... not sitting together.
So we boarded the plane, but when I came to my seat there was this lady fidgeting around, looking really worried. She saw us and said "Hey, do you mind if we switch seats? My boyfriend hates flying and I really need to be with him."
Mario looked at his ticket and guess what? It was the seat next to the lady's boyfriend. Ironically, I had just got done saying that I didn't believe in coincidences.
Ha.
Ha.
Ha.
Very funny, Heavenly Father. :)
So we rode on the plane home, talking the entire time. He caught a ride home with me and my parents and that was that. That was July, and I didn't hear from him again until late mid-September. Evidently, his phone was stolen, so he spent that time trying to text me on my home phone number. Haha! We started dating on the 20th, were engaged October 16th, and the rest is history.
Married life is wonderful so far. He's just started working again after taking about a month-long break. (Our honeymoon won't end for another eternity or so.) :)
That... and guess what?
Jagumaterra ASFP now contains a special surprise that only those who follow my FB group know about. (Dun, dun, dun!)
So pick up and check it out!
Love ya'll!
RBG

Susan Haws' Review of Jagumaterra!

This is a review by Susan Haws, Vice-President of the Skyline Scribblers Chapter of ANWA (my writing group). Enjoy! I am PSYCHED!!

"I recently had the opportunity to read Regan Brianne Jensen’s exciting, debut novel Jagumaterra A Science-Fiction Parable. How could I not love a book where the characters have tails? Not only do they have tails but they have a variety of fur colors like dark blue and violet, maroon, fuchsia, and olive. I also found yellow blood and bird like government toadies, helpful robots, and a variety of architecture including specially gown tree homes with elevators. All this is in just the first few pages.

The intrigue also begins on the first page. A king is murdered. The evil usurper controls the kingdom. The heir to the throne doesn’t know their heritage. This is an epic tale where teenagers whose biggest worry had been the upcoming history test are thrust suddenly into life or death choices. Questions of friendship, trust, bravery, and loyalty must be faced. Alliances must be forged and battles fought while dealing with grief and attraction, maybe even love. Their lives and the fate of the world hang in the balance.

Regan Jensen transports the reader to a fully formed world complete with history, legends, politics, traditions, similes, and an ancient language. She artfully allows the reader to enter the world observe, discover and explore. Except of course, who has time to explore when friends need rescuing and worlds need saving? I am already waiting for the sequel."

Jagumaterra: A Science-Fiction Parable is coming soon to paperback print and e-book.

Introducing . . . GIDEON!!

Greetings, Everybody!

Yes, I know I've started a lot of manuscripts lately, but there's another one! This is my very first all-out romance. What can I say? I couldn't resist.

The hero's name is Gideon Catowe (Shoemowechawcawewahcatowe) . . . Okay, I'll say it slowly. cah-TOH-way or show-eh-MOH-way-chah-KAH-way-wah-kah-TOH-way. Yeah, all that just to say "wolf." Crazy, huh?

Anyway, the heroine's name is Elysia Parke. (A lot easier to say, huh?) The book is kind of a contemporary/romance/fantasy and should be interesting, since both characters have secrets and forgotten obstacles to overcome.

Just looking for some input. It's about two girls who find an entire hidden world under the basement of their summer home with the help of their strange, deranged uncle-hermit and almost-human dog. It's supposed to be directed towards 10-14 year-olds and is still a work-in-progress, so if anyone has some amazing ideas, I'm open! Watch for updates on the first book, Witches in My Basement here on WMRBJ! ( ;) )

It's been a while since I've posted anything here, and I apologize. I'm still learning how to keep my blog updated and interesting.

So, the only reason Jagumaterra:A Science-Fiction Parable isn't out yet is that my cover artist, the lovely and gifted Audrey Hatch (yes, the daughter of my brilliant mentor and author of The Stranger She Married, Donna Hatch), is in college and has no Internet access to send me the updated version of the cover that we feel so certain will be the final draft.

Perhaps some of you know, but I could have never guessed what work went into getting the cover finished and ready! It's insane! Thank you for your patience. I will try to keep you updated as much as I can.

I am currently taking a break from writing, since I need to do a self-re-evaluation and actually become the characters I'm writing about. I don't want to stand on the soap-box as a hypocrite and not-very-leadership-oriented-author. You deserve better than that. Of course, we are all constantly learning and growing and progressing (or, at least, I hope we are), but I want to at least get to the point my characters are at right now and inspire, not just imagine what it would be like, to become a leader.

Okay, here's the challenge to all those who read this post. . .I would like to share this journey of discovery with all of you! Right now I am reading No One Can Take Your Place by Sheri Dew. But it isn't just a see-how-fast-you-can-turn-the-page dime-store novel. Oh no. I am delving into every scripture and reference, always looking for the answer to these questions: Why is this here? What is it trying to teach me? How can I apply this to my life and become a better person?

I challenge you to join me on this pathway of self-discovery! Keep me updated on your own journey! I will share with you what I discovered here on the blog. Those whose stories are truly inspirational will see their e-mails posted here on the blog! So don't hesitate! This journey is worth everything you put into it! (I know it sounds like I'm trying to sell you something, but you've really got to try this!)

E-mail me! I'm ready to hear from you! writingmiracles@gmail.com

You are all wonderful! align="center">Excerpt from Jagumaterra: A Science-Fiction Parable

"Vicnor pushed her fallen husband's hair away from his handsome face with her hand. As she caressed down his facial features and moved to his firm neck, the virgin blood from his fatal wound soiled her velveteen fur, creating a crimson bridge between her violet pelt and his of dark blue. Tears fell free from her eyes, mixing with the blood that painted the floor. She wished the blood was her own. His life was of so much more significance.
He was, after all, Toshormo, the King of Jagumaterra.
Vicnor buried her face against his chest and wept there on the forbidding obsidian floor, wishing to be wrapped in his arms, even if only once more in this life.
She lifted her face to the vaulted ceilings of the palace, she plead.
“nar'Reos, take my husband's soul into your kingdom and claim vengeance upon his murderer.”
Vicnor listened to her voice echo in the abyss of the inky canopies. A part of her panicked, praying that none had heard her cry, but the other half of herself felt satisfied that the Great Ancestors had heard her.
A soft coo reminded Vicnor that she was not alone in the throne room. Her infant daughter reached for her. The innocent smile on the baby's lips a giveaway to her ignorance of the circumstance. . .or perhaps it was a smile of comfort. There seemed to be a wise gleam in the child's deep blue eyes, the eyes and wisdom of her father.
Her little daughter lay in the large arms of Sir Flauby, King Toshormo's most trusted bodyguard. The devoted knight's head hung against his chest in reverence for his fallen master. Vicnor hoped that he did not blame himself for the death of Toshormo.
She laid her long tail on Flauby's shoulder and lifted her daughter from his arms. The babe's expression changed from her sweet grin to a pout. She blabbered for a moment, as if attempting to speak, then, frustrated by her lack of communication, began to cry.
The murderer's servants still lurked about the castle. It was risk enough that they sat in the open area of the throne room to say their last goodbyes to their friend, father, and husband.
